In our webinar with digital transformation specialist, Matt McCormack from Cognizant, I asked him: What was your biggest lesson learnt from participating in multiple organisational disruptions? He responded by saying the operating model is important and that no-one has got this right.
“it’s a key indicator of failure, they haven’t envisioned what the future state will look like. Why is that important? Well, because you’re fundamentally going to re-design your labour force. If you start with the technology, you’re going to find you’ve got the wrong people in the wrong roles and you’ll never create those experiences with your customers that you thought about. So, getting that operating model upfront is important.”
You can watch his reply below:
What is organisational design?
Organizational Design is a key pillar of the Enterprise Business Agility (EBA) model, specifically known as Org Structure & Design. It involves placing the right people in the right roles to ensure technology works efficiently, prioritizing the design of the organization over the tools it will use. By understanding the organization’s vision statement, we can determine where roles should be and how people in those roles will utilize them.
It’s like building a race car before knowing which championship you’ll race in. For effective Agile Transformation for Large Enterprises, focus on organizational design first.
